The NZIIA Board is pleased to announce that Dr Mathew Doidge has been appointed the new Editor of 'New Zealand International Review.'

Dr Doidge will take the reins of NZIIA's flagship publication in early 2026, as Ian McGibbon steps down after a 44-year stint in the role. The magazine is now in its 50th year of publication, providing insight and analysis on international affairs as they relate to New Zealand.

Dr Doidge is a Senior Research Fellow at University of Canterbury. His research interests are in international relations and the international political economy of development. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Scopus-indexed Australian and New Zealand Journal of European Studies (ANZJES), an Executive Committee member of the European Studies Association of Australia and New Zealand (ESAANZ), and a member of the European Union Studies Association of the Asia Pacific (EUSAAP). He is a longstanding member of NZIIA. He has also co-edited the upcoming Volume V of the book Aotearoa New Zealand in World Affairs, 2006-2025.

Mathew Doidge welcomes proposals for article submissions to New Zealand International Review, email nziia@vuw.ac.nz.

On 2 December in Wellington, NZIIA will hold an event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of New Zealand International Review and to acknowledge the immense contribution that Ian McGibbon has made as Editor over several decades. Invitations will be distributed to NZIIA members shortly.
