Our next speaker will be Mr Taha MacPherson, Deputy Chief Executive - Policy, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Wellington.
The topic of Mr MacPherson's remarks will be "Achieving Impact in a Contested World".
There will be a door charge of $8 (cash) to cover venue hire and afternoon tea expenses.
Taha was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive, Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in June 2024. Prior to his current role, Taha was the Acting Deputy Secretary for the Europe, Middle East and Africa and Australia and before that Manager of Europe Division.
Offshore, Taha has been New Zealand's Ambassador to Thailand, accredited to Cambodia and Lao PDR, as well as Ambassador to Türkiye, accredited to Israel, Jordan, Azerbaijan and Georgia; and responsible for New Zealand's relationship with the Palestinian Authority. He has also served in Washington DC and London.
From 2014-17, Taha was seconded to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister. From 2006-08, he was Private Secretary to the Minister of Trade. He has also been Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Auckland.
Taha is of Māori (Tainui/Ngāti Tāhinga), Samoan, and Pakeha Scottish descent. He grew up in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. Taha graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Law and Master of Arts (First Class Honours) Degrees in Political Science.
