Join us on 3 October for an address by the Solomon Islands Foreign Minister, as he discusses his nation's foreign affairs and trade and the relationship with Aotearoa New Zealand.

The event is organised by New Zealand Institute of International Affairs Whare Tawāhi-a-mahi i Aotearoa. It is chaired by Rt Hon Sir Anand Satyanand and will include an address by the Minister, followed by questions and answers. Attendance is free. Please register in advance. 

About Hon. Jeremiah Manele

Honourable Mr. Jeremiah Manele is the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands. He has vast civil service experience, having held senior Government positions and represented Solomon Islands as a career diplomat. Hon. Manele was first elected to the National Parliament in 2014, and was Leader of the Official Opposition Group in Parliament (2015-2017). He served as the Minister for Development Planning and Aid Coordination (2017-2018).

Prior to his political career, Hon. Manele held senior government positions, serving as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Development Planning, Secretary to the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade. He also served as Secretary to the Solomon Islands Government-RAMSI Intervention Taskforce. Before that, Hon. Manele was deployed on diplomatic postings as Counsellor and later Charge d'Affaires of the Solomon Islands Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Hon. Manele holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Papua New Guinea and a Certificate in Foreign Service and International Relations from Oxford University.
