From Genocide to Global Leadership - Rwanda's Remarkable Journey followed by Branch AGM

HE Mr Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, High Commissioner of Rwanda to Singapore, Australia and New Zealand

Monday, 30 May 2022 5:40pm

Wellington

Rutherford House, Lecture Theatre 2 (RHLT2), Victoria University of Wellington Pipitea Campus

In 1994, the Genocide against Tutsi resulted in an estimated one million deaths in just 100 days.  All this in a country one tenth the size of New Zealand.

In the last 28 years, Rwanda has gone from this catastrophe to prosperity for many of its 12 million citizens and is continuing with an ambitious programme of development.

Rwanda’s infrastructure, destroyed in 1994, has been replaced with leading digital technology; schools and roads have been rebuilt; international conference facilities are in demand and, due to zero tolerance of corruption, businesses throughout the African continent  are relocating to the leafy, green, clean capital Kigali.

In June, Rwanda, the newest member of the Commonwealth, hosts the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali.

Rwanda’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, will speak on his country’s transformation and the issues that confront Rwanda and the global community.

Annual General Meeting
The Wellington Branch AGM will immediately follow the question and answer session.

At the orange traffic light setting, all attendees are required to wear a face mask at Victoria University of Wellington's Pipitea campus, including in the lecture theatre.

Please note, Rutherford House Lecture Theatre 2 (RHLT2) has wheelchair access.
