The Strategic Policy Division for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in conjunction with UC’s Department of Political Science and International Relations and the New Zealand institute of International Affairs, invites you to join us at our event: Navigating a Shifting World - New Zealand’s place in a heighten geostrategic environment.
We will hear from guest speakers Joanna Anderson and Hannah Miller. Check out their bios below.
Joanna Anderson:
Joanna currently manages the Strategic Policy team at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has extensive experience working in the Pacific on geopolitics, oceans and fisheries, and delivering resilient development in partnership with Pacific countries. Prior to working at MFAT Joanna was Commissioner to the Western and Central Pacific Tuna Commission at the Ministry for Primary Industries, and has been on postings in Brazil and Cook Islands.
Jo has a MSC degree in Physical Geography, with a focus on climate change and oceans, and has spent time working in Antarctica on climate related science projects.
Hannah Miller:
Born and raised in Southland New Zealand, Hannah competed her tertiary education in the United States while competing as a leading Division 1 Cross Country and Track athlete.
Hannah completed her undergraduate at Southern Methodist University in Dallas Texas where she graduated with distinction gaining a BA in Journalism, a BA in Political Science and an honours minor in Public Policy and International Affairs. Hannah continued her Graduate education at The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque where she graduated summa cum laude with a Master’s degree in Public Policy.
Hannah was an Honour-Roll, All-Conference, and All-Regional academic honour recipient every college semester, as well as a Tower Public Policy Scholar with the George W. Bush Presidential Center where she focused on Globalization, National Security and International Education initiatives.
Upon graduation Hannah returned to New Zealand to take up her current role as a Policy officer in the Strategic Policy unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
