Pre-Election Debate on Foreign Affairs - Navigating Global Uncertainty: Aid, Trade and Foreign Affairs

Various speakers

Thursday, 3 August 2023 5:30pm - 7:30pm

National Office

InterContinental Wellington, an IHG Hotel Grey Street, Wellington Central, Wellington, New Zealand

Join us for a lively debate, where representatives from Aotearoa New Zealand's main political parties come together in election year to discuss the priorities for foreign affairs, aid and trade. The event is jointly run by the Council for International Development Aotearoa New Zealand (CID) and the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs (NZIIA).

Questions will cover NZ's role in a more volatile, conflict torn world where globalisation is in retreat, famines are on the rise, and we are being pushed to pick sides. Can NZ keep straddling geopolitical blocks one led by China, the other by the US, as they move further apart?

Panellists will share what they see as Aotearoa's role on the global stage, and their perspectives around international cooperation, aid and development and trade. The event will also explore Aotearoa's position in the Asia-Pacific region and how it can strengthen ties with the Pacific Island nations and cultivate deeper partnerships.

This event is a must-attend for anyone interested in hearing directly from the major political parties about their foreign affairs priorities, and Aotearoa's role in the world.
