The NZIIA Wellington Student Subcommittee invites student members to a roundtable discussion about New Zealand-China relations and postgraduate study in International Relations.

Dr Zhang recently completed her PhD in International Relations at VUW. Mengdi will begin with a presentation on her thesis, which analysed changes in NZ policy discourses on New Zealand-China relations. The floor will then be opened to questions about her research and experience completing postgraduate study in International Relations at VUW. If you're interested in NZ-China relations or postgraduate study in IR, or both, this event is for you.

About Dr Mengdi Zhang:

Dr Mengdi Zhang's doctoral research examines how New Zealand policymakers’ depictions of the interactions between economics and security have evolved in the relationship with China. She taught INTP 248: International Security at Victoria University of Wellington in 2025, and is currently working at the Centre for Strategic Studies. She has published her work on Newsroom and Women Talking Politics.
