The future of New Zealand’s relationship with China

Jeremy Goldkorn

Midday, Saturday, 9 July 2022

Auckland

Kinder House, 2 Ayr Street, Parnell, Auckland 1052

Jeremy Goldkorn presents an overview of China's history, geography, and politics. He will discuss the effects of China’s rise and how New Zealand and the rest of the world should respond. He addresses questions such as:

  • Is China a totalitarian and economic threat to Western countries, or can they benefit from China's economic growth?
  • How should we think about China in a post pandemic world?
  • Do we judge China on its human rights record, or trade issues and diplomacy?
  • Is New Zealand too dependent on exports to China?

Jeremy Goldkorn is a China media commentator and entrepreneur.  He has lived and worked in China for 20 years and is editor-in-chief of SupChina and co-founder of the Sinica Podcast. Jeremy has written for The Guardian, China Economic Quarterly and China Story Yearbook and regularly appears in global news media commenting on China affairs.

Jeremy’s presentation will be discussed by Alistair Crozier, Executive Director of the New Zealand China Council, followed by questions and answers. Lunch is provided after the event.

COVID-19 safety measures are in place.  Please wear a face mask during the talk.
