New Zealand’s domestic non-renewable energy sources are dwindling and a substantial part of the country’s primary energy requirements are now imported.  In addition, issues surrounding climate change and global warming are pressing.  The New Zealand Institute of International Affairs hosted an all-day seminar in Wellington on 21 November 2007 that discussed the factors that nations must address to assure themselves of continued access to an affordable and reliable supply of energy.

The seminar focused especially on current resources, future energy supply, and new forms and sources of energy, as well as the weight that individual countries place on the energy component in their external relationships.
